A photo, text and textile project based on my photos, taken in Iran in 1996, when I visited the country for the first and only time.
I was in Iran during the country’s most religious days and I witnessed numerous processions of men, old, young and small boys who celebrated Islam in the streets.
I shot several rools of film of this masculine community.
The project will analyze how masculinity are constructed through acts of rituals and performativity, how boys are trained to be men and the homosocial context they are part of. One of my goals are to present a different picture of the middle eastern man than the stereotypical images we have been fed with since 9/11.
The project will also include textile pieces, produces by fabric bought in Iran.
